A Gregory, South Dakota homeowner contacted Blackburn Foundation Repair after a radon test came back at 13.4 pCi/L. With retirement approaching, the homeowners wanted peace of mind about the air in their home and lasting protection for the concrete around it.
The EPA recommends taking action when a home tests at 4.0 pCi/L or higher, so this result made professional radon mitigation an important part of the project.
Lowering Radon and Improving the Home
Our team installed a radon mitigation system with two suction points. The system draws radon from beneath the home and safely vents it outdoors before it can build up inside. A suction monitor makes it easy for the homeowners to see that the system is working.
The project also included an Aspen air system to support cleaner indoor air. Homeowners who are unsure of their number can learn more about radon testing.
CleanSpace Crawl-Space Encapsulation
The crawl space was also improved with CleanSpace encapsulation. The durable liner helps separate the home from damp soil, ground moisture and outside air, creating a cleaner, drier space below the home.
The homeowner later asked about extending the poly liner into another front section of the crawl space. Blackburn will review that area and discuss the best way to complete the coverage. See how crawl-space encapsulation can help protect a home, or explore our complete crawl-space repair services.
Protecting the Front Concrete
Because the homeowners were preparing for retirement, they also wanted a long-term plan for the original concrete at the front of the home.
Our crew used PolyLevel concrete lifting to fill spaces beneath settled slabs and improve support. We then repaired and sealed cracks and joints with NexusPro to help keep water out. SealantPro was applied to the original concrete to help protect the surface from moisture, staining and seasonal wear.
Together, these services provide total concrete protection for the slab, joints and surface without replacing otherwise usable concrete.
A Safer, Better-Protected Home for Retirement
By combining radon mitigation, CleanSpace encapsulation, indoor-air improvements and concrete protection, Blackburn helped these Gregory homeowners address several concerns in one coordinated project.
